Bronze & Beaded Sculptures
Barbara French Duzan is a wildlife artist working in two sculptural mediums. She is passionate about animals and depicts them with respect. She sculpts birds and animals in clay for bronze casting and creates one-of-a-kind beaded animal heads. Her sculptures have appeared in a number of prestigious juried exhibitions and in galleries.
Her bronzes are sculpted in an impressionistic style and with a touch of whimsey. Her goal is to give the viewer a sense of movement frozen in time. Many of the birds and animals are life-size and may be placed outdoors in a natural setting. Some of the clay originals are embellished with beads, shells and other objects, giving the finished bronzes a lighthearted feel and unique texture.
The animal heads are created using foam, clay and beads in a mosaic-like style. "I am satisfying my love of color with these pieces, and have a bead palette of over 130 colors. These heads are my version of the hunter's trophy head. No animals were killed to make them." Often designs for the heads are based on camouflage. Others are a visual journal of the artist's thoughts and impressions, depicted in beads and found-objects.
